Remote Working Part 3 – Basic Toolkit
Self discipline more….
Before I present to you my list of great Internet tools that almost certainly assist you to operate remotely, I should alert you to one more point connected with self discipline and specifically to do with keeping your focus and levels of concentration
I’ve discovered and verified a common habit in acquaintances who work on the web and I’ve been in contact with for quite a long time and I call this behavior the 50 min rule. I spotted these individuals who apply themselves and work for fifty mins. and then pause for a whole 10 minute break and are considerably more productive and generate a substantially greater quality of work than acquaintances who don’t have structured working practises.
OK as promised I present you with my list of preferred remote working web applications:
Google Mail costs nothing. My friends and I all agree the search & label (categories) mechanisms are the best implementation I have encountered. The downside is it can be a bit slow on older machines
Phone calls
Skype used to infuriate me as the call stability was appalling, but all credit to the coders at Skype now as they have considerably refined the quality of the service. For meagre amount of money a quarter Skype lets me call and conference in any handset and Skype user on Earth. The latest version of Skype has a wealth of superb features and there constantly expanding collection of useful add ons.
Organising Content
Evernote has secured over a million users in no time at all – it lets you to store, organise and add notes to any species of digital media on the web. Just go check it out…it’s free.
Invoicing, Time and Expenses capture, Accounting and CRM
You probably know that my calling to work remotely was originally motivated by Quickbooks Online, a small business accounting software web application. But it is easily beaten hands down by the free edition of salesorder.com – a lead to cash system that’s as easy to use as a pc mouse I looked at NetSuite whose pricing (and people) scared me off. My choice here is salesorder.com – Go check it out.
The web has changed my working life forever – Part 1
I am continually surprised by the hundreds of men and women who are currently focusing on the world wide web to earn an income. I have a series of focused online concerns which when summed earn me much more cash than it was possible to ever realise by taking conventional employment. I am not saying that I have to work less hours but I do not have commute any longer, providing me with an increase in the amount of time I have to spend with my family. In just a few months time my wife and will have paid off all of our debts and we are really looking forward to retiring somewhere warmer.
Minding a set of concerns is very motivating, but I have had to work out methods of being more productive and refining my working practices. To organise my buyers and the income and expenses of my firms, I use a small number of internet applications – you should buy excellent small business management software to to save you time and let you focus acquiring and attending to customers. I have a Quickbooks login and a NetSuite login. I can use these web applications from from my laptop and they enable me to observe all of the customer and financial activities in real time.
From my NetSuite login I am able to oversee all of the purchases on my web stores and monitor the return on investment of the Google Adwords marketing activities that deliver new clients to my web stores. I no longer use Microsoft Office which has been superceded by a Google Account which contains all of the tools I regularly use, with electronic mail, document creation and spreadsheets. I can log into these applications from anywhere.
In terms of improving myself and broadening my skill set, I have uncovered an amazing amount of free and amazing value for money online education which I have eagerly studied. One of the most important lessons I have taken onboard is how to recognize and sub contract time consuming work, to other workers who can do this quicker and cost effectively. I can precisely relate the moment at which I passed my earnings limit to my discovery of the upside of sub contracting some of the projects taking up most of my time, to me increasing my money in to beyond that of my wages whilst in full time employment.
In Part 2, I get into detail about how I work smarter.
Remote Working Part 2 – Managing yourself
The most cited reason men and women fail to succeed at operating remotely is they don’t recognise the need for good quality organisation and sustainable self management.
I have been working remotely for almost a decade since I first unearthed Quickbooks online an ‘on demand’ small business accounting software web application and was amazed by the fact that if you can do accounting on the web then why shouldn’t you be able to perform other important types of work at a distance?
Whilst working remotely has its obvious perks there are numerous traps that people easily fall into which turn into problems that cause cuts in work output and lower motivation. The key reason for low productivity in remote employees is disturbance and it is a established and well publicised fact that it can take a employee up to 20 mins to establish their original efficiency level after experiencing a distraction.
Studies also show that individuals who are continuously affected by disruptions are more likely to suffer from decreased memory capability and are prone to developing mental health issues in old age. We live in an over communicated society and it is critical that you are acquainted with the problems this causes before you commence working remotely. Whilst operating remotely you have to do everything possible to remove the risk of being distracted.
Here are things that really do work:
1, Get a consistent schedule, tell everyone about it and obsessively maintain it!
Good examples are a fixed time of day when you look at or send electronic mail and make or receive telephone conversatiions. Before I began working remotely I used to receive nearly a couple of hundred electronic mails over a period of twenty four hours. Now I think I am unfortunate if I get more than four. To ‘restart’ my e-mail experience I changed my e-mail address and tenaciously took steps to defend the details being passed on to anyone. I then educated every individual who I gave my e-mail address to, to use it prudently. I also created an automatic response that swiftly informed anyone sending me mail at what time of day I would be reading mail and if an item must have my immediate awareness to mark it as ‘Urgent’.
2. Get rid of alerts.
Turn off every feature that can send you a interruption. This includes mobile and
ordinary phones and types of alerts from electronic mail such as display events, warning sounds, display changes to your inbox list and of course facing a window. Get a door on your work place and put up a ‘do not disturb’ sign on it.
In ‘Remote Working Part 3 – Top tools and tricks’ I will reveal my favourite tools and software.
Remote Working Part 1 – Summary
Obviously not all of us is allowed to work remotely as some vocations require workers to be at their office or travel to undertake their work face to face. But for those of us have the chance to work remotely then I thought it would be useful to share what I have learned and present some practical advice by distributing it on the Internet in the hope that I could give others helpful ways for adapting to remote working or managing remote workers.
I should warn you that there are groups of so called ’experts’ on the net who will try and persuade you to purchase information for substantial sums of money, take my word for it you don’t need to do this.
I am blessed to be able to work wherever I choose and just about everybody who asks me what work I do wants to understand how I manage to work remotely. Don’t be fooled here I am still perfecting the science of remote working as all of the time I bump into individuals on the net who teach me new ways and I am repeatedly uncovering new systems and methods that make my life easier and make me more efficient.
In the past 7 years I have steadily adapted my working practices to allow me to do all of my work remotely with a collection of online tools and robust self discipline. One late night whilst surfing the net I uncovered Quickbooks online and this got me thinking about what just might be possible. My encounter with ’hosted’ ‘on demand’ small business accounting software was inspiration for me and the beginning of my ‘remote working career.
I should mention up front that effectively working remotely is as much about the tools as it is about self management. Working remotely also means stating to your team members, supervisors and clients as to what they can expect and how they will communicate with you.
In ‘Remote Working Part 2 – The art of working smarter ‘ I talk about how to focus.
Attend the World Internet Summit
Just on Friday night, I was invited by a friend to attend the World Internet Summit, and so I grabbed upon the opportunity to learn from several successful Internet Marketers how they made their fortune online.
What impressed me is that how powerful marketers they are…that’s mean over the past two days,it would be powerful sales copywriting skills,if you’d ask me the one thing that I have learnt that is the important!
I’d like to point out that the Internet Marketing that these millionaires do are really absolutely so different from what most professional bloggers are doing. Professional bloggers really get their traffic built up slowly over time, readers come in slowly as you post more content and people start getting to you from search engines or incoming links – and the starting few months are tough, to say the least, and we really care about the content we put up – because it reflects us, and at least 90% of the content is really typed out by the blogger himself or herself. We are really ultimate content creators!
Internet marketing is so totally different. In fact, one key issue brought up during the seminar was to FOCUS on the marketing, and do your best to outsource everything if possible. So almost everything can be outsourced – an e-book they sell may not be written by them;
The key to their massive sales figures is the list of email addresses they have collected over time. Its amazing,It is really that the email list is the ultimate asset to any Internet marketer, only because that drives traffic to their sales copy is the one thing, and and these are people are are very targeted, who have at least landed on their sales copy or squeeze page or have already bought one or more of their products once.
Canadian Franchises
Now is a good time to consider exploring and penetrating the Canadian business market. Canada is now considered a franchise industry leader, with nearly half of all its new retail businesses being franchised businesses. There is a lot to learn about successful franchising in Canada, whether you are a franchisor expanding into Canada for the first time, or are a seasoned international franchisor. There are a lot of business and legal issues to consider, including cultural challenges, disclosure compliance, anti-trust laws, and intellectual property protection. Franchisors operating in Canada are subject to both federal and provincial law, so it would be prudent to consult with a Franchise Attorney before setting up your franchise.
Most franchise attorneys offer a complete range of services relating to franchising, including document preparation, analysis, and advice. Some of the areas of law associated with franchising in Canada are: licensing; franchise and distribution; intellectual property (including trademark, copyright, and patents); transporting franchise systems into and from Canada; multi-level marketing; and general corporate commercial law (including the purchase and sale of businesses).
A good franchise attorney is a specialist in his field who is able to meet the needs of various clients. For instance, a startup franchise system may need help with drawing up documentation to sell franchises; a mature international franchise system may want to penetrate the Canadian market; a prospective franchisee would possibly need assistance reviewing documents provided by the franchisor. A franchise attorney with business experience in franchising is a big plus, since he will be able to give his clients first-hand advice based on his own business experience.
Intellectual property is a vital consideration when starting any kind of business, and not just a franchise business. Trademarking and protecting intellectual property play an important role in protecting creative works and ideas from infringement anywhere in the world. A franchise attorney can dispense invaluable advice on copyrights, industrial design, and patent issues. A franchise lawyer who is also a registered Canadian trademark agent can also protect his client’s business by properly registering and managing the business’s trademarks.

Great Pointers for Hotel Franchising
Hotel franchising is a popular concept today, that covers not only the franchising of hotels, but also the franchising of motels, inns and other lodging and boarding options.
There are many technicalities involves with the running of a hotel as compared to that of running of a restaurant or fast food franchise.Running a hotel involves much more responsibilities, investments and work than running a restaurant or food outlet. You can find hotel chains across the world because of hotel franchising.
Carry out lots of research if you are considering getting yourself a hotel franchise. You have to be very careful, attentive and thorough when you go through the franchising process with agents.
As a hotel franchise can be very expensive, you have to be sure you will be able to bear all setup, running and maintenance costs of the hotel. The franchisor you deal with has to be someone you can trust; so find out all you can about the person before entering into any agreement.
You have to check on the past and present reputation of the franchisor’s hotel before you become a franchisee.Make it a point to check on their other existing hotel franchises so that you can find out more about the support the franchisor provides them.
Based on the franchisor’s methods, you will be able to learn more about the running of the hotel. This also helps you learn more about the hotel franchise’s policies and quality standards.
The hotel management should be able to give proof about the experienced way their other franchises are being taken care of.If you are considering hotel franchising, you have to make sure that you thoroughly understand the hotel industry and its market. You will thus learn what the franchisor wants from its hotel franchises, and be able to meet these expectations.
